MADURAI: Birthday wishes are pouring in from across the country for Union Finance Minister Ms.Nirmala Sitharaman’s birthday today-August 18th 2023. Widely regarded for her immense contributions to the nation in different capacities, she is having a special place in the hearts of people of Tamil Nadu as a great daughter from Madurai doing a great job in Delhi.
Tamil Nadu BJP State general secretary Prof.Dr.Raama.Sreenivasan had outlined some of her significant contributions that makes her special for Tamil Nadu and while extending his birthday wishes he described her as ‘a jewel in India’s crown, pride of India and a great daughter of Madurai’.
“Ms.Nirmala Sitharaman’s great quality is her simplicity, accessibility and unassuming nature. Right from the days when she was holding Commerce portfolio, she had shown special care, attention and interest towards Tamil Nadu. She has a great knack of finding solution to any issue related to business, trade and industry. “For instance, the key role played by this great daughter from Madurai for solving the crisis faced by fireworks manufacturing and cracker units in Sivakasi on multiple occasions was remarkable. The GST on cracker manufacturing units was reduced from 28 per cent to 18 per cent only due to her right intervention at right time. When the Sivakasi cracker units were facing a terrible time and threat of facing closure, it was Ms.Nirmala Sitharaman who took a special initiative of taking up the matter with the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister and thereby solved the problems faced by manufacturers and workers in fireworks and cracker units,” the Tamil Nadu BJP general secretary Prof.Dr.Raama Sreenivasan had pointed out in his message of birthday wishes from Madurai today. Also, the GST for safety match units in Sattur and Kovilpatti etc got reduced from 18 per cent to 12 per cent only due to her efforts and special attention.
FROM MSMEs to MAJOR INDUSTRIES:
According to Prof.Dr.Raama Sreenivasan, the contribution of Ms.Nirmala Sitharaman for Tamil Nadu needs a special mention on her birthday because as Union Finance Minister she had patiently listened to various grievances of industries from Micro Small and Medium Enterprises to large industries, and provided relief to them.
“As a Commerce Minister, as Defence Minister and now as Union Finance Minister, she had left indelible mark. Defence corridor peoject, handling of Indian economy during the COVID pandemic period and saving of livelihood for match industry workers by increasing the import duty for Chinese lighters etc are some of the steps taken by her showing that a Minister is a saviour,” the BJP State general secretary has said.
