Pandya dynasty 3 fishes to come up in 3 months: TN Chamber president tells members at I-Day celebration

MADURAI: The iconic three fishes sculpture which is the emblem of great Pandya dynasty will be installed very near to the Periyar Bus Stand in Madurai city in another three or four months time and that place has been identified as apt place by the court constituted committee because of the suitability and visibility for public from all three sides.

Dr.N.Jegatheesan, president, Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has said that the committee report will be submitted to the concerned authorities soon and that sculpture will be installed near Periyar bus stand-Kattabomman statue- corporation information centre in the next three/four months.

“Our TN Chamber has played a very important role to get the three fishes sculpture reinstalled because it perpetuates the memory of the glorious Pandya dynasty emblem. In the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court and with government officials, we took up this matter ever since it was removed from the Madurai railway station eastern side due to renovation works in railway junction premises here. The three fishes sculpture which is 15ft height and three tonnes in weight is a great attraction with fountain ever since it was first installed in the year 1999,” he said while addressing the members of TN Chamber at the 77th Independence Day celebration here on 15th August 2023.

Dr.Jegatheesan told the gathering that he had personally explained to several officials about the significance of Pandya dynasty emblem as chamber president and as a member of that court constituted committee to select a place for reinstalling the sculpture. The TN Chamber president also highlighted in his speech about various key points pertaining to economy, GDP, railway stations development, Madurai Metro rail project and about the chamber’s initiative of electric hi-tech gasifier crematorium etc.

Mr.J.Selvam, chamber secretary, had proposed a vote of thanks. Joint secretaries Mr.M.A.Rajeev and Mr.A.Sundaralingam, vice-president G.Elangovan, treasurer S.Sridhar and other office-bearers and members were present at the 77th Independence Day celebration held at chamber premises in Kamarajar Salai in Madurai today.
