MADURAI: The ladies lounge in Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) campus in Madurai has been converted into a department classroom and faculty room facility for journalism department in the varsity in violation of what was shown to the NAAC at the time of recent re-accreditation, according to university sources.

Senior level sources in MKU campus told ‘Lotus Times’ media on July 26th 2023 that there has to be some quick intervention from top level authorities because the ladies lounge was closed and given to a woman faculty member from Journalism thereby putting the women at hardship in the campus.

“We were shocked how the Vice-Chancellor gave approval for disturbing a place that is meant for ladies. This place is called ladies lounge with ladies rest rooms, feeding mothers room etc that was created during the period of Mrs.Kalyani Mathivanan when she was the VC of our university. But unfortunately, the ‘J’ effect has taken away the ladies lounge in MKU. Acutally, this place was shown as ladies lounge to the NAAC when the team from NAAC came to our campus for re-accreditation process assessment recently. Water problem is there for women staff now in our campus, there is information that Rs.42,000 was spent to convert ladies lounge into an individual faculty room. We want NAAC and higher education department officials to inspect this and restore the ladies lounge. The Abdul Kalam Arangu in our university campus is known for convenience provided to staff. Please investigate the ‘J’ effect,” a few senior officials and faculty members have appealed from MKU on July 26th 2023.
