MADURAI: A team of office-bearers from the Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association had met Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Mr.Shivdas Meena in Chennai on 11th July 2023 and submitted a memorandum comprising nine issues related to GST, Food Safety and Standards Act, Madurai infrastructure development etc.
On behalf of the association, the team including honorary advisor Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam, secretary Mr.S.Sai Subramaniam, executive committee members Mr.C.Senthil Subramanian and Mr.K.Karunakaran and committee member Mr.P.Arivarasu met the Chief Secretary and discussed with him about the immediate requirements.
Mr.S.V.S.S.Velshankar, association president and Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam, honorary advisor, had issued a press release about the meeting. The team from Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association from Madurai had raised in the meeting with Chief Secretary about tax exemptions, tax reliefs and constructive changes in the rules and regulations of GST received from the GST Council, and the demands that are to be forwarded by the Government of Tamil Nadu regarding GST.
DEFECTS IN FOOD SAFETY ACT:
The association had urged for taking action to remove the defects and shortcomings of Food Safety and Standards Act and also not to levy market committee cess fees for transactions outside the market committee yard under the Agricultural produce marketing act. It has also appealed to remove the shortcomings in plastic ban act and grant permission for industries making plastic covers.
Import of peas, helping for development of Madurai city, controlling stray dogs and cattle on the streets across the State, renovation of Race Course Ground in Madurai with modern infrastructure facilities and request to conduct monthly meetings with all stakeholders about issues pertaining to Goods and Service Tax Act (GST) and Food Safety and Standards Act, were among the points discussed in the meeting and mentioned in the memorandum submitted to Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Mr.Shivdas Meena in Chennai on July 11th 2023, according to the press release received here.
