Common syllabus is not compulsory for universities in Tamil Nadu: TANSCHE assures it just gave a ‘model syllabus’

MADURAI: The demand and protests made by university and college teachers associations in Tamil Nadu across the State opposing common uniform syllabus for all universities has given some good news for the higher education teaching fraternity today- on July 12th 2023.

The team from Joint Action Council of College Teachers (JAC), Tamil Nadu, has had an important meeting with the vice-chairman, secretary and members of the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education (TANSCHE) in Chennai, on 12th July 2023.

“The JAC had put forth the opinions at today’s meeting that took place in Chennai, we put forth the suggestions and views of university and college teachers in Tamil Nadu at this meeting was held in TANSCHE office in Chennai on 12th July 2023. Finally, we were assured by the TANSCHE vice-chairman and team that only model syllabus was sent to all universities in Tamil Nadu by the TANSCHE and it is up to the universities to either accept it or reject it. The Board of Studies of that particular university can take a decision about the syllabus. The TANSCHE is also going to send an official circular to all State universities in Tamil Nadu very soon. Hence, the universities can follow the old syllabus and the Board of Studies in universities will have the autonomy to decide on syllabus for courses offered,” the press release received from Dr.M.Nagarajan, Convener of JAC-Tamil Nadu, had informed the media through a press release on 12th July 2023.
