First woman Rotary Governor all set to take over; Free autos for women among projects planned

MADURAI: R.Anandtha Jothi is all set to assume charge as the District Governor of Rotary International District 3000 for the year 2023-24 with effect from July 1st 2023, becoming the first woman governor of the district.

She has chalked out an action plan along with her team of office-bearers and Rotary Clubs for implementing various service projects in the next 12 months with an outlay of about Rs.10 crores. The Rotary District 3000 covers seven revenue districts- Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Theni, Karur and Ariyalur.

AUTOS FOR WOMEN, FOCUS ON GIRLS SCHOOLS:

At a press meet organized in Madurai yesterday-on June 27th 2023, Ms.Anandtha Jothi had listed out her priorities for Rotary year 2023-24.”There will be more attention on women and school girls. We want to give free autos (e-autos) to destitute women and empower them with livelihood through our ‘pink auto’ project. At least 100 autos we want to donate through Rotary clubs in our district. We will make arrangements for the identified women to learn driving and get license, after which we will give them e-autos. The Rotary clubs will also help the women drivers get support from schools, parents etc for the auto so that they get a sustained income,” the incoming Rotary district governor has said.

For the government schools especially in rural areas, the Rotary District 3000 plans to construct proper toilets for girls, water tank etc and focus on sanitation, health and hygiene issues. The woman district governor had prepared list of projects and programmes to be implemented from July which starts with a ‘carnival for special children’ to be held at Lady Doak College in Madurai on July 1st, to provide a day out for mentally challenged children.

Child abuse awareness, youth leadership programmes, job fairs, waste management, vocational training for disabled persons, menstrual health etc are among the projects planned for the year by following the theme ‘Create Hope in the World’, Ms.R.Anandtha Jothi, Rotary District Governor for 2023-24 of Rotary District 3000, told reporters at the press meet in Madurai yesterday. (She is the 33rd district governor of this district and the first woman governor).

Mr.J.Ashok, regional coordinator (Madurai), Ms.Kowsalya, assistant district governor, Mr.Madhavan Prabhu, programme coordinator and Mr.Nellai Balu, district chairman for Rotary Public Image, were among those present at the press meet in Madurai on June 27th 2023.
