MADURAI: Senior level officials of TASMAC in Madurai region have conducted a sudden inspection of retail liquor shops in Madurai district on June 11th 2023 and action has been taken against supervisors for not displaying the MRP of various liquor brands in the shops.
A press release received from district authorities in Madurai today has informed that four supervisors have been temporarily suspended from duty because they did not display the MRP chart list of liquor prices in TASMAC wine shops which was a clear instruction from the State government and TASMAC management officials.
The four shops in Madurai district that were inspected and action taken against the staff on 11th June 2023 for not displaying the MRP display board are at Alwarpuram, Aarapalayam, Vadipatti and Andipatti, according to the press release. Officials said that instructions were given to the TASMAC district managers to ensure that there is MRP list displayed in every liquor shop for public view, and take action against shops where the MRP list for liquor brands is not displayed.
The decision and instructions about TASMAC shops were given after a review meeting held in Chennai on May 26th 2023, conducted by Minister Mr.Senthil Balaji, following complaints that TASMAC shops are selling liquor at ‘over pricing’ rate and collecting more from the buyers. Hence, the government officials had ordered that price list of all liquor brands being sold in each TASMAC retail shop should be displayed for public view to ensure that the buyers will come to know of the price.
