MADURAI: Expressing its sadness and grief over the death of over 80 children in Gorakhpur hospital in Uttar Pradesh in the last few days, the BJP had put facts before the people of India that the prevalence of Encephalitis disease in that State is there for the past 36 years and it is not a sudden thing that happened when the BJP came to power.
“It is a major public health issue in that region, the eastern UP, for last 36 years as per scientific data…The BJP government came only just over two months ago and is it correct to link the Gorakhpur child deaths to Chief Minister Mr.Yogi Adithyanath’s new government,” asked Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan, Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary, in a TV news channel heated debate show at 9 p.m.on August 15th 2017.
The BJP Tamil Nadu leader was arguing for the party on Tamil news channel ‘Puthiya Thalaimurai’ by stating that encephalitis is not a sudden prevalence of disease that took place after the BJP came to power.
“Don’t do politics with child deaths in Uttar Pradesh…..the sensitivity of this problem was made known to this country by medical research organisations three years back…Mr.Yogi became CM only recently and certainly the issue will be addressed effectively by the BJP government……All of us feel very sad and shocked for the death of children,” Dr.Srinivasan has said.
INTELLECTUAL DISHONESTY:
The BJP leader argued that it is not appropriate to criticise the BJP government just for the sake of criticising for political reasons because 25,000 children died so far and it was the Mulayam and Akhilesh Singh Yadav government that was there till very recently…..
“Encephalitis prevention is a long-term public health issue…we will solve that through good public health interventions…..but what was the Congress UPA government doing on this issue for 10 years when it was in power at the Centre…The criticism by opposition parties is nothing but Intellectual Dishonesty…lack of Oxygen cylinders can’t be linked with this new government,” Dr.Srinivasan asked.
In the last 5 years, totally 88 lakh children have been vaccinated for encephalitis and the present UP Chief Minister Mr.Yogi played the vital role as Gorakhpur MP in Lok Sabha for that to happen.
The others on the discussion panel in TV news channel ‘Puthiya Thalaimurai’ were Mr.Peter Alphonse from the Congress Party, Mr.Arunan from the CPI(M) and Shyam Sekhar as independent voice….and others.
