Ticket-checking special drive by railway team in Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division; warns of case and fine for ticketless travel in trains

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Special railway teams are going to conduct more intensive ticket checking to catch persons travelling in train without ticket and combating ticketless travel is taken up as a priority by the Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division. Special drive is being conducted in railway stations and in trains to prevent ticketless travel by passengers.

For instance, a ticket checking special drive was conducted last Wednesday- May 24th 2023- between Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station and Kottayam stations by a special team led by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mr.S.M.Sharma in Thiruvananthapuram division of railways. A railway press release had informed that totally 89 cases of ticketless travel were detected during this special operation and a fine of Rs.30,160 was collected from those who were travelling without ticket.

“It is essential for all passengers to posses valid train ticket during their journey. It is proposed to conduct more intensive ticket checking in coming days. Ticketless travel is increasing among students and in the wake of reopening of colleges and schools, an intensive ticket checking campaign is planned. Ticketless travel undermines railways’ revenue and we urge all passengers to have valid train tickets while travelling,” the railway press release from Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division has said.

UNRESERVED TRAIN TICKETS MOBILE APP:

Railway officials are also conducting awareness about UTS Mobile App (Unreserved Ticketing System) which is meant for the benefit of unreserved passengers. In the special ticket checking drive, the team consisted of Divisional Railway Manager, four Ticket Checking Inspectors and one Railway Protection Force member, and checking was done in six trains operating between Thiruvananthapuram Central and Kottayam.
