Yoga, millets and alternative medicine: The message from Gandhi Museum in Madurai

MADURAI: The importance of yoga, millets, naturopathy, alternative medicine and physical exercises was emphasized at an international conference that began in Madurai today. The Institute of Gandhian Studies and Research-Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai had organized an international conference on yoga and alternative medicine here on May 27th and 28th 2023.

Prof.Dr.J.Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU), who was the chief guest for inaugural function today morning, had released the conference souvenir and said that India as an ancient country has so many good things to be taught for the entire world.

“The strength of our country has been proved to the world in the way we tackled COVID-19 and by supplying vaccine to other countries. No other country could produce the vaccine in such a huge quantity. Practicing of yoga exercises, food habits and physical activity daily are a few main reasons for overcoming the COVID crisis. We must follow our traditional food habits, millets etc for good health. Understanding the nature and living with it is important,” the MKU Vice-Chancellor Prof.Dr.J.Kumar has said while addressing the participants.

NATUROPATHY CAMP IN MUSEUM:

Gandhi Memorial Museum secretary Mr.K.R.Nanda Rao has said that the museum is conducting naturopathy camp on last Sunday of every month, yoga classes in Madurai central prison for jail inmates and also yoga session in juvenile home. “Our museum is doing several outreach activities in association with schools, colleges and various organizations. We thank the MKU for its support,” Mr.Nanda Rao has said while offering his felicitations.

M.Senthil Kumar, advocate and treasurer of Gandhi Memorial Museum-Madurai, Dr.M.Senathipathi, associate professor in Wolaita Sodo University, Ethiopia and Dr.M.Nagarani Natchiyar, naturopathy doctor from Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), Madurai, were among those who spoke in the significance of yoga and natural foods in daily life.

Dr.R.Devadoss, Principal, Institute of Gandhian Studies and Research-Gandhi Memorial Museum, had welcomed the gathering while museum curator Mr.R.Natarajan had proposed a vote of thanks. Technical sessions were held in this conference by inviting experts from various places.
