MADURAI: The famous pilgrim spot Rameswaram railway station in Tamil Nadu is getting a complete transformation of amenities for passengers and tourists thanks to the railway station redevelopment works undertaken by the Southern Railway.
A press release received from the Southern Railway Madurai Division here on 12th May 2023 to give an update of the work has informed that redevelopment works of pilgrim town and India’s famous tourist pilgrim destination Rameswaram railway station are going on to offer a world class ambience, futuristic infra and airport like facilities for passengers. The tender was awarded for Rameswaram railway station redevelopment in September 2022 and works are now progressing at a steady pace.
Some of the preliminary works have been executed recently like shifting of passenger reservation counters, road diversion and completing site lab installation, there are now works in progress at Rameswaram railway station. Demolition of existing terminal building is in progress, and new parcel office foundation work is also going on.
The work of Redevelopment of Rameswaram Railway Station in Tamil Nadu was awarded as EPC contract to M/s Sabari URC JV-Coimbatore at a cost of Rs.90.20 crores by setting a time frame of 18 months for completing the project. Project management services work was given to M/s TUV India Private Limited- Mumbai to do project management service at a cost of Rs.4.41 crores.
Two terminals are proposed to be constructed at Rameswaram railway station, with G+6 foundation that suits for future needs, and good amenities for waiting area, ticketing area, railway offices, arrival of passengers, lifts and escalators etc that are proposed in the new buildings, besides prepaid taxi counter, railway offices etc along with adequate parking area.
