MADURAI: The family members of former president of Madurai AIIMS and senior neurologist late Dr.V.Nagarajan had come forward to sponsor and institute a neurology medal for postgraduate MD students in the General Medicine Department of Madurai Medical College. Dr.Nagarajan had passed away in January 2023.
To commemorate his birth anniversary on 30th April 2023, his family members handed over fixed deposit and documents to Tamil Nadu’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr.Ma.Subramanian who was in Madurai today and also thanked him for instituting the neurology medal exam in memory and honour of late Dr.V.Nagarajan (founder of V N Neuro Care Centre in Madurai) who was president of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS-Madurai).
His wife Mrs.Mohanarani Nagarajan contributed Rs.one lakh as fixed deposit to the General Medicine Department of Madurai Medical College. The family also sponsored gold, silver and bronze medal for students of the same department. Family members of late Dr.V.Nagarajan who were present today include Mrs.Mohanarani Nagarajan (wife), Mrs.Krtithika Radhakrishnan (daughter) and Dr.J.Radhakrishnan (son-in-law), senior IAS officer and additional chief secretary of cooperation, food and consumer protection department, Government of Tamil Nadu.
Dr.A.Rathinavel, Dean, Government Rajaji Hospital and ,Madurai Medical College, has said in a press release here on 30th April 2023 that the family members had instituted the medal considering the passion of late Dr.V.Nagarajan towards teaching. The family also proposes to soon start a Trust in his memory which will focus on issues of mental health.
The family had profusely thanked the Government of Tamil Nadu, Health Minister Mr.Ma.Subramanian, GRH Dean Dr.A.Rathinavel, Head of Department of General Medicine Prof.M.Natarajan and the faculty for their gesture in accepting and instituting medal examination in the name of late Dr.V.Nagarajan.
