MADURAI: Devaki Hospital in Madurai has been asked for an explanation by the Madurai Corporation here today for allegedly dumping biomedical waste in a public place in a corporation dustbin near the hospital at Arasaradi in the city, sources said on April 27th 2023.
The Devaki Specialty Hospital, which is situated at Arasaradi area in Madurai, in the Madurai Corporation West Zone near Periyar Bus Stand, was questioned about the presence of medical waste in dumping spot near the hospital and asked for an explanation.
When contacted about the Madurai Corporation notice to the hospital, Devaki Hospital senior medical officer Dr.K.Rajaram told ‘LotusTimes’ media today evening that the hospital has a very good medical waste management in place and “what is being said by some people about that waste is not a biomedical waste and it was not done by our staff.”
Dr.Rajaram said that there is a proper medical waste disposal mechanism in place for Devaki Speciality Hospital in Madurai city and an agency by name Ramky Agency is handling the hospital waste disposal for Devaki Hospital located at Arasaradi in Madurai.
The hospital is giving its explanation to the Madurai Corporation by saying that there are no medical needles etc in the dumped spot and the hospital is taking various measures for waste disposal in a right manner as prescribed by government rules.
“First of all, it is not biomedical waste. We get more cancer patients here, but our hospital staff will not dump the medical waste in public place. There are three or four hospitals in Arasaradi area, and hence we are telling the Madurai Corporation that the medical waste found in a dustbin is not ours and we take lot of steps for proper disposal of medical and biomedical waste,” a hospital staff told ‘LotusTimes’ media website www.lotustimes.org, and added that the hospital is informing the same to Madurai Corporation authorities today evening- on April 27th 2023.
