MADURAI: The Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) is going to exhaustively discuss on the issue of Ph.D Guideship and eligibility at the varsity’s Senate meeting to be held tomorrow- on March 31st 2023. Sources told ‘LotusTimes’ today that a Pre-Senate meeting was convened in the university today and the resolutions that are coming up in the Senate meeting were discussed.

MKU Vice-Chancellor Prof.Dr.J.Kumar, university Registrar in-charge Dr.K.Sadasivam and Syndicate members had attended this Pre-Senate meeting that was held for two hours from 11 am to 1 pm.

“In all probability, there is going to be a positive news for teachers working in self-financing streams of affiliated colleges of MKU who are waiting for Ph.D guideship. This issue will be discussed in the Senate, approval of guideship will be discussed, and it is very likely that teachers in Self Financing streams in colleges will be allowed and be eligible to become Ph.D Guide as Senate members are going to speak on this tomorrow. Colleges are raising this issue in tomorrow’s Senate meeting. This Ph.D guideship issue was raised in the recent Academic Council meeting also after a circular was sent to colleges by MKU Registrar,” sources added.

According to MKU official sources, 15 resolutions are being moved by members in tomorrow’s Senate meeting and the important issue being raised through resolutions moved by Senate members is about Ph.D guideship, faster evaluation of Ph.D thesis etc.

STOP DISCRIMINATION:

Meanwhile, a few professors have today appealed to the MKU authorities to treat all faculty members as equal irrespective of the college- whether they are from government college or aided college or self-financing streams. “There should not be any discrimination. All are professors and our university must see only their qualification and whether the candidate is meeting the eligibility criteria. We should not treat self-financing faculty separately. Hope our Vice-Chancellor, Syndicate members and our Senate will take a good decision and announce the guidelines that will satisfy all,” a member of Academic Council has said today.
