CHENNAI: The recent arrest and release on bail of Rotary District Governor Elect in Chennai Mr.Ravi Raman in a Rs.118 crores business fraud and cheating case in Chennai has raised many questions from the members of Rotary Clubs in RI District 3232. He was arrested by the Chennai police recently and came out on bail just a few days back in March 2023, and the police investigation is going on.
On March 27th 2023, many senior members of Rotary clubs in Chennai have appealed to the Rotary International Board Director Mr.A.S.Venkatesh to take an appropriate and quick action in this matter because “many of our old Rotary Clubs in Chennai in Rotary District 3232 and senior Rotarians are confused on what is going to happen next because the District Governor Elect Ravi Raman is facing very serious cases of cheating and police enquiry. A few office-bearers who were supposed to be in his team next year have resigned and some have expressed their embarassing situation, displeasure and discomfort”.
The Rotary Clubs further added that “Many next year presidents of Rotary clubs in Chennai district 3232 are a worried lot now. Several Rotary clubs decided to stop inviting Ravi Raman to their clubs for their functions and next year team installation to be held very soon. They are not ready to accept him as next Rotary District Governor. How can a person who is facing criminal charges and had come out of jail be our district governor? He is out only on an interim bail. The Rotary Clubs and Rotary movement are guided by great objectives and a service vision with which the Rotary movement was founded. So, we are all waiting for the decision of Rotary International Board Director Mr.A.S.Venkatesh and the report of our Rotary District 3232 governor Dr.Nandakumar. They have to take the call now and save the image of our Rotary Clubs in Chennai,” a few very senior Rotary club members in Chennai told ‘LotusTimes’ media website on March 27th 2023.
