CHENNAI: In what is becoming a major embarrassment to the prestigious worldwide service organization Rotary International, the Rotary District Governor-Elect of Chennai (District 3232) Mr.Ravi Raman of R R Industries Limited in Chennai, has been arrested by police here for a real estate scam and public fraud to the tune of Rs.118 crores, indulged in the name of developing an IT Park in Ambattur in Chennai.
Based on several complaints received in the last one year from various affected persons who had invested their money by believing the words of businessman Ravi Raman and his wife Shobana Ravi, the Chennai police had taken a swift action because the funds were diverted for personal benefits and indulged in fraudulent actions in the past 15 years, and this police action against Rotary District Governor-Elect Ravi Raman was taken by the police for allegedly swindling public money and committing a huge fraud. This arrest took place in Chennai in March 2023 (just three days back-on Thursday) and a full fledged investigation is now going on in Chennai, sources told ‘LotusTimes’ media on March 13th 2023.
Ravi Raman is a director with R.R.Industries Limited and is registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, bearing DIN 00120410. When contacted, the present Rotary District Governor of Rotary District 3232 Dr.N.Nandakumar has confirmed today that the Rotary Club members in Chennai have received information of alleged fraud committed by Rotary District Governor-Elect Mr. Ravi Raman and his company.
“After receiving information about this fraud, we have downloaded the data from police website and it is in public domain now. The members of Rotary Clubs are anguished with this, and we are shocked. The Rotary District Governor Elect Mr.Ravi is a member of Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel and also a past president of that club.The facts will be placed before the Rotary International Board about this police FIR. The next course of action will be decided by the Rotary International Board because he got elected as next Rotary district governor and whether he can hold the position of Rotary Governor must be decided by our Board,” the current Rotary District Governor Dr.Nandakumar told ‘LotusTimes’ media website when contacted over phone on March 13th 2023.
A senior Rotary Club member in Chennai has said that it will be impossible for scam-accused Ravi Raman to become a Rotary District Governor for 2023-24 because “the scam is a very very serious issue and Rotary club members will also be responsible to the people because Rotary International is a public service organization.”
