MADURAI: Around 1,200 retired professors who served for decades in Government aided colleges in Tamil Nadu have been facing a ‘Pay Anomaly’ for the past 30 years right from the days of the Fifth Pay Commission.

These aided college teachers are now making an appeal to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin to settle this grievance of retired aided college faculty who joined service in 1980-85.

“This anomaly was settled for Government college teachers long back. But somehow, the aided college teachers got left out of rectifying this pay anomaly. It is yet to be settled for the past 30 years. While it was settled for teachers of government colleges in Tamil Nadu, the same was not done for aided college teachers and hence nearly 1,200 retired professors are waiting for correction of this pay anomaly. We request the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to look into this matter and settle the demand of retired teachers of aided colleges which is pending from the year 1996. We pray for the intervention of our Chief Minister and request him to set right the anomaly pf aided college teachers. The 5th UGC Pay revision from 1-1-1996 is applicable for aided college teachers also……higher start of Rs.14,940 for all government and aided college teachers who were in position as Selection Grade Lecturer on 1-1-1996 or earlier and had completed 5 years in the Grade. The DIRECTOR OF COLLEGIATE EDUCATION’s proceedings was extended only in the case of Government college teachers and ignored all aided college teachers who were similarly placed. Aided college teachers appointed during 1980-85 are denied the benefit of Rs.14,940 higher start and this disparity must be set right. This is our appeal,” said Prof.Allah Pitchai and Prof.Ravi and Prof.Thiagarajan, in an appeal through their press release on March 9th 2023.

More details of this matter will be published by ‘LotusTimes’ in next couple of days, after collecting full information about this long pending appeal of retired teachers of aided colleges.
