MADURAI: The general secretary of SPCSS-TN Mr.P.B.Prince Gajendra Babu has said in a message on March 4th 2023 that he is ready for a ‘One to One discussion’ about ‘Samacheer Kalvi’ with former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University and UPSC Member Prof.Dr.E.Balagurusamy.

“I shall be happy if Dr.Balagurusamy could explain what ‘Samacheer Kalvi’ is about….I am ready for one to one discussion with the most respected former Vice-Chancellor. I have some reservations about the Model Schools concept that is coming through because of Tamil Nadu State government’s acceptance. Let anyone tell me if it will be right to treat the unequals as equal? Students from schools with basic amenities and students from schools without basic amenities are made to sit for a common “Baseline Assessment’. Is it fair? Is it not against Article 14? A member of UPSC that selects candidates for appointments as IAS officer should be knowing the answer. I respect Prof.Dr.E.Balagurusamy and hope that he can understand what we say, once we are able to have a constructive dialogue with him. We are ready for a discussion with him on Model Schools, ‘Samacheer Kalvi’ and issues related to school education,” Prince Gajendra Babu has said in his reply to ‘LotusTimes’ media that carried a news item quoting Dr.E.Balagurusamy who said that “Karunanidhi’s Samacheer Kalvi only killed the school education in Tamil Nadu. Students in Tamil Nadu are not able to face NEET, JEE and CUET etc due to the poor standards of ‘Samacheer’ curriculum’.

Mr.Prince Gajendra Babu has said in a press statement on 3rd March 2023 that the ‘Model School concept is against the spirit of ‘Samacheer Kalvi and it is very shocking to learn that the Tamil Nadu State government has constituted a body under the name ‘ Tamil Nadu Model Schools’…..and this body is to conduct a baseline assessment for Class 9 students in all districts to select students for admission into Model Schools. It is against the principle of equality and also against the ‘Samacheer Kalvi’ dream of late Chief Minister Kalaignar M.Karunanidhi.”.
