MADURAI: Atleast 300 permanent employees of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) in Madurai are going to lose a substantial part of their salary from their take home salary in March 2023 (from Rs.10,000 to Rs.30,000) because of an undertaking given to the State government by the university Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar and his administration team that the “steps will be taken with regard to pay scale re-fixation for the administrative staff and recovery of pay from their salary”.
The Madurai Kamaraj University Administrative Staff Association had taken out a protest in the MKU campus here today- on 13th February 2023- condemning the Vice-Chancellor’s undertaking that the salary of non-teaching administrative staff will be cut down, from the level of attender to Deputy Registrar.
“Our present Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar’s decision will reduce our present take home salary for 300 permanent employees who are working in non-teaching sections. In the name of reforms, our non-teaching staff salary is being reduced in MKU. It will also have a huge negative impact on pensioners also Why should our salary be cut due to some old audit objections? We are appealing to the university Vice-Chancellor and our Registrar to protect our salary and don’t go ahead with re-fixation,” Mr.K.Sundaramoorthi, association secretary and Mr.S.Muthiah, senior deputy registrar of MKU and treasurer of MKU Administrative Staff Association, have made a fervent appeal to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister seeking his intervention to stop re-fixation of pay of MKU administrative staff who have already rendered 20 to 30 years of continuous and uninterrupted service, and those who are in retirement time or on verge of retirement.
“It is noticed that the Vice-Chancellor of MKU has given an undertaking on 26th September 2022 which affects the entire staff and is against the Acts and Statutes of our MKU. We earnestly appeal to the People’s Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to intervene and maintain the status quo of MKU Senate resolution passed on 30th March 2022. Please direct the MKU Vice-Chancellor to follow the Acts and Statutes of our university,” an appeal letter signed and sent to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister by Madurai Kamaraj University Administrative Staff Association president Mr.P.Murugan and his office-bearers team has said.
