For Family Planning, more men coming forward in Madurai dist as vasectomy cases are increasing

MADURAI: The number of Vasectomy cases in Madurai district is gradually increasing as the data coming from those who are involved in family planning and birth control program in Madurai district had indicated that VASECTOMY CASES are going up gradually in this district, according to information got from the health sources here on December 14th 2022.

More men are opting and going for surgical contraception/ family planning procedure/ male sterlilization / vasectomy in Madurai district. The Family Planning Association of India (FPAI)- Madurai Branch- is playing a key role in carrying out family planning procedures in association with the Tamil Nadu Health Department and the district health authorities through special camps.

“Earlier, the vasectomy number was in a single digit in Madurai district, then it went up to double digit and now we are going towards three digit number per year. The number of vasectomies by men will be less if we compare to tubectomy procedures for women. But still, the male participation is slowly going up in family planning birth control procedures in Madurai district,” Dr.S.Prathiban, Branch Manager, FPAI-Madurai- told ‘LotusTimes’ website www.lotustimes.org in Madurai today December 14th 2022.

The State Government Health Department is taking several awareness campaign steps to increase male sterilization through vasectomy procedure.

“From single digit, the number of vasectomy cases is inching towards three digit number per year. Our Madurai district’s performance is improving in the State for vasectomy number and in overall family planning surgical procedure. A few years back, the vasectomy number was very less in single digit in Madurai district. in 2021-22, totally 65 vasectomy procedure for men was performed in our district and of this the FPAI contributed 52 vasectomy operation cases and the remaining 13 came from the government side. In 2022-23, the total number of vasectomy cases in Madurai district is 52 of which 50 cases done by FPAI and the remaining two cases came from government sector. The NO SCALPEL VASECTOMY camps and awareness programs are yielding good results since the male sterilization is slowly increasing in our family planning data,” Dr.S.Prathiban has added.

The contribution of FPAI Tamil Nadu and FPAI Madurai Branch is becoming significant in the health department’s family planning initiatives, and vasectomy for men is moving towards three digit number per year in Madurai district.
