MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association had given a few suggestions and recommendations to the Union Finance Minister Mrs.Nirmala Sitaraman who is now getting prepared for presenting the Union Budget for 2023-24.
“Our appeal to the Union Finance Minister is to raise / increase the personal income tax limit upto Rs.5 lakhs per annum. Various laws of the Central government should not be enforced uniformly and not separately in several States as their convenience….Petrol and diesel must be brought under the Goods and Service Tax Act ambit because Rs.10 per liter is high in Tamil Nadu compared to other States. Because of this, our industries are highly affected as they use generators…..Our request is that petrol and diesel should be brought under the GST Act to reduce their prices,” the Tamil Nadu Foodgrains and Merchants Association had made an appeal from Madurai through a press statement dated 1st December 2022.
Mr.S.Sai Subramaniam, honorary secretary of the association and Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam, honorary advisor, have also urged to stop collecting market committee fees being collected in Tamil Nadu for transactions done inside and outside the market yard. “Agriculture produce need support and this is our appeal. We also want that usage of plastic has to be allowed till an alternate packing material is found, because most of the food commodities are suing plastic as a primary packaging, Currently, the big companies are allowed to use this plastic for packing but the small traders are not even allowed to pack in the government prescribed limit in microns,” the press statement has said.
VANDE BHARAT TRAINS:
The TN Foodgrains Merchants Association has also appealed to the Union Finance Minister Mrs.Nirmala Sitaraman to consider operating Vande Bharat trains in all cities of Tamil Nadu, and to introduce new metro train facility in cities like Madurai also.
“Under the Smart City project, the first instalment of funds was allocated in first phase and first phase work is completed. Smart cities wait for second instalment of funds to complete the project at the earliest and hence we appeal to the Union Finance Minister to sanction the second phase funds for Smart City project immediately. We are also waiting for the Madurai-Tuticorin Industrial Corridor which was announced in earlier budgets and our request to the central government is to bring big industries for Madurai region and to benefit the southern districts’ progress and development,” Mr.S.Sai Subramaniam, honorary secretary and Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam, honorary advisor of the Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association, have appealed in their representation for Union Budget 2023-24.
