Ancient DNA lab to study archaeological excavations is being opened in MKU on 17th November 2022

MADURAI: The Department of Genetics of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) in Madurai has established an ancient DNA laboratory to generate and analyze ancient DNA data from archaeological excavations of Tamil Nadu. This lab was set up with RUSA support and it will be useful to provide genetic / DNA and other biological evidence for the materials excavated by the Archaeology Department of Government of Tamil Nadu. The total cost of this project is Rs.3.3. crores.

Finance and Human Resources Minister Mr.P.T.R.Palanivel Thiaga Rajan will inaugurate the Ancient DNA and BSL-3 laboratories in MKU here on 17th November 2022, in the presence of MKU Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar, MKU Head of Department of Genetics Prof.G.Kumaresan, MKU Registrar Prof.M.Sivakumar and Prof.S.Chandrasekaran, chairperson, School of Biological Sciences-MKU, and others.
