NEW DELHI: The Congress Party and other opposition voices in the Rajya Sabha were completely silenced by senior BJP leaders and Union Ministers during a discussion on cow slaughter and mob lynchings in the House on July 20th (Thursday).

Union Finance Minister and Leader of the House Mr.Arun Jaitley, Union HRD Minister Mr.Prakash Javadekar and party MP Mr.Prabhat Jha were among the battery of BJP speakers who took on the Congress, Left and other opposition parties which accused the Modi government for reported mob lynchings in various parts of the country after illegal slaughter ban was announced.

There was a short duration discussion on reported incidents of lynchings and violence on dalits and minorities in the post-lunch session on July 20th.

“Why is it that the atmosphere of violence in Kerala increase when Left comes to power there? Don’t say that lynching incidents are taking place only after we came to power at the Centre. I have the complete data, charts and details,” Mr.Jaitley said.

He told the Congress MPs and others opposition members in Rajya Sabha to first read Article 48 which was given to our country through his great Constitution-Directive Principles by B.R.Ambedkar.

“Read this Article 48 and then talk. It clearly states that the State shall endeavour on animal welfare issues, prohibit cow slaughter, improve agriculture through modern practices and breeding/preserving of animal breeds, protect cows, calves and other milch animals…” he said.

WE ALREADY CONDEMNED:

Mr.Jaitley reiterated the Centre’s stand on preventing lynching incidents and the Prime Minister Mr.Modi along with Union Home Minister have condemned and also issued advisory to State governments for action.

“Our party and government believes in mutual respect and tolerance. Violence can never be a partisan issue. Those who are involved in cow vigilantism attacks are all going to be charge-sheeted, There are no ifs and buts in this issue,” Mr.Jaitley said in Rajya Sabha.

Earlier, Mr.Javadekar rebutted the criticism of opposition parties in cow slaughter ban related issues and said that violence or lynching has no place in democracy and the Congress or others should not make politics out of it.
