MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains and Merchants Association from Madurai has today made an appeal to Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Mr.R.Sakkarapani and Cooperation Minister Mr.I.Periyasamy to ensure that 100 per cent of rice which is being distributed through Public Distribution System (PDS) in Tamil Nadu gets reached to the ration card beneficiaries and to take a strict action if ration rice is sold illegally.

“Our humble suggestion to avoid the impact on rice flour and Idly batter manufacturing units due to availability of rice distributed under PDS ration shops in grey market. Our appeal is to the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies to take strict action if ration shops rice is sold illegally. A rigid plan is to be made to ensure that 100 percent of the rice distributed to the people through ration shops PDS system will not affect the rice flour and IDLI batter manufacturing MSME units in Tamil Nadu. So, please protect the legitimate rice flour and idli batter making units in the open grey market. If the 100 per cent PDS ration shop rice reaches the deserving consumers, it will save the small flour units. The Government can pay to the PDS ration shop rice beneficiaries into their bank accounts,” an important press statement signed and received here in Madurai on 31st October 2022, from S.V.S.S.VelShankar, president of Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association and Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam, honorary advisor, has appealed to the Tamil Nadu State government.
