MADURAI: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is planing to set up its testing laboratory in Madurai and is also looking for a new office for its Madurai branch, Mr.S.D.Dayanand, Sceintist-E and Head of BIS-Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, has said in Madurai yesterday.
“Right now we are functioning from a place in Kappalur SIDCO estate here. We are searching for a place to shift our office. We are also planning to start a laboratory in Madurai for the convenience of industries, manufacturers etc in southern districts of Tamil Nadu,” Mr.Dayanand has said while speaking at the Executive Committee meeting of Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, held in Madurai on 13th October 2022.
The senior BIS official gave a presentation explaining about the roles and responsibilities of BIS, standardization, product certification, registration scheme, hallmarking of gold, procedures to apply for BIS license, BIS app, quality and standards for various products, protection of consumers’ interest etc. In Tamil Nadu, the BIS has four branches.
Dr.N.Jegatheesan, president, TN Chamber of Commerce and Industry, had presided over the meeting which was attended by chamber office-bearers, EC members and invitees.
