MADURAI: The ‘Gandhi Corner’ which was created as a historical spot by the Southern Railway’s Madurai Division at the Madurai railway station is a celebrated place today- on the occasion of 153rd birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, on October 2nd 2022.
To commemorate the visit of Gandhiji to Madurai by train in the year 1921, ‘Gandhi Corner’ was created as a memorial in the Madurai Railway Junction. Divisional Railway Manager Mr.Padmanabhan Ananth led the railway employees and senior officials in paying floral tributes to Gandhiji here today at this special corner in the Madurai railway station where he also inaugurated 100 photographs related to Gandhiji’s history.
To mark this occasion, a special exhibition to highlight the importance of single use plastic products was organized to spread the ‘SAVE EARTH’ message. “Single use plastics cause toxicity in water and food supplies, can cause gland dysfunction and cancer, harm birds and marine life, affect food chain etc. Cleanliness drive work carried out at various railway stations in Madurai Division of Southern Railway were highlighted and telecast…… A bust of Gandhiji and modern paintings on the exterior wall of elevator on the FIRST PLATFORM of MADURAI RAILWAY JUNCTION are the highlights of the special drive held today on October 2nd 2022 Sunday,” a press release received from the Southern Railway Madurai Division here had informed.
Additional Divisional Railway Manager Mr.Thanneeru Rameshbabu, senior engineer Mr.Narayanan, senior mechanical engineer Satish Saravanan, environment manager Mr.Mahesh Gadkari, Divisional Commercial Manager Mr.Prabhu Premkumar and Divisional Personnel Officer T.Sankaran were among those railway officials who participated in the GANDHI JAYANTI celebration in Madurai today.
