MADURAI: Former Prime Minister of Bhutan Mr.Jigmi Y.Thinley had today visited the Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai and was impressed with the various activities being undertaken from here for people’s happiness and to promote a non-violent economy that takes care of the poor people and environment.
He visited the ‘Ahimsa Santhai’ stalls in Gandhi Museum premises in Madurai on September 25th 2022, where livelihood projects, non-violent economy models and sustainability economy thoughts were highlighted and displayed as an expo to stress the need for promoting small scale enterprises and to stop exploiting people and environment.
The ‘AHIMSA SANTHAI’ was organized in Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai to celebrate local livelihoods through stalls, educational sessions, food stalls, documentary screenings, workshops and cultural performances. Gandhian leader Dr.Krishnammal Jaganathan had inaugurated the ‘AHIMSA SANTHAI’ expo that was organized in Madurai to mark the Gandhiji’s Dress Revolution that began from Madurai 100 years ago.
“I am here in Madurai today to celebrate the greatness of a man who lived not only for the people of India, but people of this world. Gandhiji’s teachings are more needed and relevant now and I am glad to meet the people of Madurai and Tamil Nadu,” the former Prime Minister of Bhutan Mr.Jigmi Thinley has said in his opening statement while speaking to journalists at a press conference held in Gandhi Museum in Madurai today- on 25th September 2022.
After reaching the Gandhi Museum in Madurai today, the Bhutan former PM had garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and later went around the ‘Ahimsa Sandhai’ stalls before addressing a press conference. Among those present at the pressmeet include senior leader of Congress party and former Union Minister Mr.Mani Shanker Iyer, Madurai Gandhi Memorial Museum secretary Mr.K.R.Nanda Rao and museum treasurer Mr.M.Senthil Kumar.
