MADURAI: It is again the same problem for the current staff and pensioners of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) in Madurai. As on September 7th 2022 information received at 5 pm, they are yet to get their salary or pension because the university has no funds. “Till now, we have not received our salary. It is already 7th, there are EMIs to be paid for bank loans. This is the financial crisis position of MKU,” said several employees of the university while speaking to ‘LotusTimes’ www.lotustimes.org website here today. Because of grim financial position, the university employees are not getting their salary and pension on time for the past nealry one year.

The information given to them from the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar’s Office was that there is no fund to pay the salary and pension right now and hence waiting from the State Government. “From VC to university attender, all are waiting for this month’s salary. The VC office had already asked the State Finance Department and top officials to give fund for salary and pension. Already, a protest gate meeting was held by the staff and we are waiting for salary,” a senior level official said on September 7th evening.

Meanwhile, official sources said that the university’s constituent college- MKU COLLEGE on Alagarkoil Road- in Madurai had already disbursed the salary and pension as per scheduled date on the last day of last month itself. “Regular staff, consolidated salary employees, pensioners and all office staff were paid their due salary before Vinayaga Chathuthi itself. This was done as per the scheduled date for MKU College staff in Madurai whereas the university staff and consolidated salary workers / pensioners are waiting to get their salary and pension,” said MKU officials today.
