MADURAI: The second service of theme based Bharat Gaurav train in Southern Railway- from Madurai to Varanasi- was flagged off from Madurai today- at 12.15 pm on 23rd July 2022. Mr.Prahlad Joshi, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines, had flagged off the train through video conferencing from New Delhi, a press release received from the Madurai Division of Southern Railway here today had informed. Mr.Padmanabhan Ananth, Divisional Railway Manager of Southern Railway Madurai Division and senior officials were among those present for the flagging off event in Madurai today.

The train’s objective is to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage and its magnificent historical places and so the Indian Railways had introduced the ‘Bharat Gaurav Trains’ scheme from 23rd November 2021. The first service of theme-based Baharat Gaurav train from Coimbatore to Shirdi was operated on 14th June 2022). It covers Puri Jagannath Temple, Kasi Viswanatha Temple, Vijayawada Kanakadurga Temple etc totally covering 5,548 kms distance

This is a 12-day ‘Bharat Gaurav round trip Divya Kashi Aadi Amavasya Express train’ between Madurai and Kasi, and it runs via Vijayawada, Puri, Kolkata, Gaya and Prayagraj. From Madurai, it goes through Dindigul, Tiruchi, Villupuram, Chennai Egmore, Vijayawada, Samarlakote, Puri, Jaipur, Howrah and Gaya to reach Varanasi and then return to Madurai via Prayagraj Rambagh, Ballarshah, Warangal and Vijayawada. The train has a composition of four 3AC coaches, six sleeper class coaches, two pantry cars and 2 SLRs.

Travel Times (India) Private Ltd- Chennai had registered on 11th April 2022 and placed its rake request demand online and paid a bank guarantee for Rs.One crore as rake registration fee on 2nd June 2022. From this operating of Bharat Gaurav train, the Southern Railway will get a total fixed revenue of Rs.2.52 crores per annum i.e an annual Right to Use charges of Rs.32.76 lakhs (excl GST) and Rs.55.08 lakhs (excl GST) towards quarterly fixed haulage charges, and in addition there is a variable haulage charge of Rs.55.80 lakhs (excl GST).
