MADURAI: An appeal has been made to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin to increase / extend the retirement age of university faculty members to 62 years since they were left out when the previous AIADMK government had extended the retirement age of State government employees by two years making it from 58 years to 60 years.

This representation to the Chief Minister was made by Madurai Kamaraj University SC/ST Teachers Association general secretary Dr.P.Nagoorkani on March 18th 2022.

In his letter to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, he had pointed out that the retirement age of government staff and teachers was extended by two years by the previous government.

“Unfortunately, the retirement age of university teachers was not extended by two years from 60 years to 62 years by the then AIADMK government. You have been encouraging university faculty to undertake research work in a big way. Already in several States, the retirement age of university teachers has been extended. Similarly, we are making a request to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin to consider increasing the retirement age of university faculty of all universities in Tamil Nadu by atleast two more years, from the present 60 years to 62 years, or if possible increase it to 65 years as is followed in central universities” Dr.Nagoorkani has said in his representation which has mentioned various other demands also including the Career Advancement Scheme implementation etc.
