MADURAI: The children’s park locality at Bypass Road-S.S.Colony in Madurai city (near Krishna Sweets) is waiting for the immediate intervention of Madurai Corporation sanitary wing as this waste collection boxes are full and overflowing, the waste is littered on the street and no response from corporation staff despite requests from local residents.

A social activist has brought to the attention of ‘Lotus Times’ website and ‘CoverPoint’ magazine about the people living in this area which he called it as ‘horrible sight’. The children’s park in S.S.Colony Bypass Road was established by Finance Minister Mr.P.T.R.Palanivel Thiyagarajan from his constituency development funds.

“The park was opened with a good intention and it is serving the purpose. Children are playing and the old are walking, the plants are growing and this park is maintained well. But, what about the park surroundings? It is full of garbage and the corporation sanitary workers are not clearing the waste collection boxes,” Mr.P.Rajamanickam of Tamil Nadu Science Forum, has said on 11th March 2022.

He has appealed to the senior corporation authorities to take immediate action and also urged the newly elected civic body / councillors to act swiftly. “Garbage collection points near parks, hospitals and schools must be relocated. It is time for the corporation to do a mapping of the location of garbage collection points. The Tamil Nadu Science Forum will help if they want, it will mobilise the public to hold protests of the corporation do not take quick steps for clearing the garbage daily in time,” he added.

Mr.Rajamanickam said that the replies and response from sanitary inspectors and supervisors of Madurai Corporation is very disappointing and they are not keen to solve the problem despite repeated pleas to relocate the garbage collection waste collection boxes in vacant areas instead of putting them near parks, schools and hospitals.
