MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has today thanked Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin for making various important announcements on projects for infrastructure development in Madurai in his speech on 21st January 2022 while launching new projects through video conferencing.
“The CM’s announcements recognize the need to take Madurai’s overall development to the next level, His announcement that Madurai Urban Development Authority will work to improve Madurai will help the growth of trade and industry in Madurai district. Because, the existing Madurai Local Planning Authority (LPA) has not reviewed the master plan of the usage of land (classification of land) for the past 27 years,” Mr.N.Jegatheesan, president, Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has said in a press statement issued in Madurai on 22nd January 2022.
He pointed out that Madurai was expanded from 52 sq kms area to 148 sq kms area in the year 2011 and the wards were increased from 72 to 100 in the corporation area. “However, the pace of improvement of roads, underground sewage and electricity was not adequate in the last 10 years and hence the CM’s present announcement of allocating Rs.500 crore fund for these basic needs will help Madurai a lot,” the chamber president added.
Mr.Jegatheesan and TN Chamber welcomed the other important announcements such as relocating wholesale market to city suburbs for mitigating traffic congestion, renovation of Veera Vasantharayar Mandapam in Meenakshi Amman Temple and temple consecration and flyovers construction in Madurai city at important traffic localities besides shifting of Madurai central prison to a spot outside city limits.
The proposed establishment of new SIPCOT will increase the possibility for starting new industries in Madurai especially MSMEs, Mr.Jegatheesan has said in the press statement.
