MADURAI: Servant maids, apartment workers and security persons working in an apartment complex in Madurai were provided timely help during this tough COVID lockdown period as they were given free grocery kits and vegetables by the flat residents there on 1st June 2021.
Thanks to the voluntary contribution received from apartment members, a special team had planned and executed the distribution of some essential food items to around 25 servant maids and security persons of Sri Vijayalakshmi Apartments at D.R.O.Colony Main Road in Madurai here today morning.
Members of a special committee named Vijayalakshmi Apartment Welfare Committee had worked for over one week to mobilize resources, procure groceries and identify the beneficiaries. “The support from our apartment members is encouraging. With the support of residents in this apartment and Welfare Committee members, this good deed became possible. We thank all the well-wishers who helped in doing good things to help the domestic servants in this crisis period,” senior member Mr.D.R.Shahjahan of the welfare committee has said on June 1st 2021- Tuesday- after the distribution of groceries and vegetables.
The coordination for this was done through apartment’s whatsapp group while the welfare committee members spent considerable time yesterday for packing and keeping the grocery kits ready. Another senior member of the apartment Mr.Thiagarajan has said that the team work made timely help possible and the end result was that the poor servant maids are happy and heaving a sigh of relief because of this little help.
The groceries-essential items distributed to servants, workers and security of Sri Vijayalakshmi Apartments include- rice, rava, maida, atta, sambar powder, turmeric, chilli powder, salt, cooking oil etc. There are over 20 essential items in the grocery kit.
Among those who steered and guided the COVID relief distribution include Mr.Shahjahan, Mr.Daniel, Mr.Selvakumar, Mr.Suresh besides Dr.Selvamani Dhinakaran and Mr.Subramanian along with Dr.Sridhar, Ms.Nirmala, Mr.Umar Farooq and Mr.Meeran.
The gesture from residents of Sri Vijayalakshmi Apartments, the support from its association members and work done by the flats’ welfare committee had helped over a dozen deserving homes in Madurai when the city is closed for lockdown now.
