S.Rly Madurai Division earns Rs.1.9 cr freight in just 1 day

MADURAI: The Madurai Division of Southern Railway had earned Rs.1.88 crore through freight trains in a day, which is the first time highest in this fiscal. Madurai Division has loaded 306 Wagons comprising the loading of chemical manures from Tuticorin, imported coal from Tuticorin Harbour, charcoal from Manamadurai and tractors from Vadipatti in a single day, a press release from the Southern Railway Madurai Division here today- on 31st January 2021- had informed, 

This performance was realized as freight earnings of Rs. 1,87,98,302. …..25 modified goods wagons laden with tractors despatched from vadipatti to Benapole Railway station in Bangladesh as a second time loading in this fiscal. Earnings through this foreign traffic is Rs.23,15,954. RITES has laid a goods siding from Tirupparankundram to Kappalur HPCL storage point to facilitate transportation of petroleum products upto the point of consignee’s premises. Trial run has been conducted on this new goods siding recently. In order to mitigate the traffic congestion in Triunelveli city, an additional modern goods shed has been opened at Gangaikondan Railway station with add on facilities namely concrete paved unloading platform, high mast lighting towers. merchant’s chamber, labourers rest room with toilets, bath rooms and drinking water facilities, the press release issued from Madurai today had informed.
