MADURAI: The Gandhiji Memorial Government Boys Higher Secondary School at Peraiyur in Madurai district got a smart lift on 15th December 2020 thanks to the IndianOil which provided Smart Classrooms under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity.
The school near Madurai has 348 students and most of them belong to the families of agriculture workers and daily wagers. The main building of this school was built nearly 69 years back and the same was in a dilapidated condition. Classes were held under the trees due to prevailing risky situation of classroom buildings, according to a press release received here today- December 15th 2020.
Then Madurai District Collector Dr.T.G. Vinay and the Head Master of Gandhiji Memorial Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Peraiyur, Madurai district, had requested the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for two new classrooms with Smart Class facilities and 24 dual desks and the same were provided under CSR by the IndianOil at a total project cost of Rs 28 lakhs.
The facilities were handed over to the headmaster of the school in the presence of Mr. D. Murali , DGM, Madurai Indane LPG Bottling Plant, Mr. Y. Ravi Kumar, DGM (LPG), Madurai Indane Area Office, Mr. Harinath, DGM (Operations) – Madurai terminal, Mr. A. Rajaram , Chief Divisional Retail Sales Manager – Madurai Divisional Office, Mr. N R Ganesh, Chief Plant Manager, Ilayangudi Indane Bottling Plant and Mr. BR Mahesh, Chief Divisional Institutional Business Manager, Madurai Divisional Office and Mr. Muthu Manickam , Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Tamil Nadu & Puducherry, who is also an alumni of the school.
Several local villagers, parents, students and teachers were present in this important CSR activity in Madurai district today, according to Mr.R.Chidhambaram, General Manager (Corporate Communications), IndianOil Southern Region.
