MADURAI: The Southern Railway has today clarified that Vande Bharat trains have strong safety features and are fitted with Kavach safety system along with other safety devices which are installed during the manufacturing itself.

“There is news in a section of the media about safety of Vande Bharat trains. So, it has to be clarified that the front nose of VB trains is designed to absorb energy in case of cattle hit. It is made of material that crumbles and absorbs impact energy. For additional safety, there is a cattle guard at the front to deflect anything that comes on the track,” the Southern Railway has said and gave a clarification in a press release today-April 21st 2025.

With faster acceleration and semi high speed operation upto 160 Kmph, the Vande Bharat trains are designed with modern coupling design which transmits the impact energy throughout the train, according to the press release.

Stating that VB trains have ‘Kavach’, the Southern Railway has informed that the braking system is modern and fully integrated with the safety system. “These trains have proven to be safe and efficient. India’s first ever indigenously designed and manufactured semi-high speed VB trains have provided a modern and comfortable rail travel experience to passengers. High speed and enhanced safety standards are hallmarks of this train. To prevent cattle run overs, Indian Railways is fencing the tracks throughout the country, and more than 3,500 km of rail tracks are already fenced,” the Southern Railway press release has said today-April 21st 2025.
