MADURAI: The importance of public awareness about diabetes and ‘sugar test’ was stressed at a general health checkup screening camp conducted by Sugapriya Hospital in Madurai today-April 20th 2025- in the hospital premises situated near Sundaram Park-K.K.Nagar Lake View Road here.
Several patients had turned up for this free medical camp and they were given free doctor consultation, free basic tests and diagnosis including X-Ray, ECG and free medicines, according to the health camp organising team.
“Our observation from the health camps was that newly detected diabetes cases are coming more in numbers. Still diabetes and awareness about ‘sugar level’ is not understood. As doctors, we advise the people to go for diabetes checkup and sugar level test once in six months. If you are above 30 years of age, it is important now a days because the incidence of diabetes is rising rapidly,” Dr.P.Meenalatha, anaesthetist and critical care consultant, has said after screening a few patients at Sugapriya Hospital in Madurai today afternoon.
She has expressed concern about the undetected and uncontrolled diabetes cases because it is getting more common among the public.
“Diabetes…sugar… is a non-communicable disease. It is increasing among our population. So, lifestyle modification and daily physical exercise along with regular checkup for ‘sugar level’ in the body once in six months is the best way. Fiber rich food and low carbohydrate food should be taken. Sugar level must be under control in our body. Otherwise, diabetes affects our body and creates complications for kidney, heart etc. If your are already a diabetic, right medication is a must. The best way to keep sugar level under control is physical exercise, walking, yoga etc,” Dr.P.Meenalatha has said in Madurai today while doing medical tests at Sugapriya Hospital here.
