
MADURAI: India has embarked on Artificial Intelligence (AI) mission in a big way with a clear focus to create AI-ready workforce and make the country a large digital economy by the year 2030, Mr.S.Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, New Delhi, has said today.
“The government’s priority is to encourage development of digital economy. digital industry in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. A study done by Stanford has clearly indicated that India has the best prepared AI workforce in the world and it is our pursuit that the present IT people can be retrained in AI applications and deploy them for emerging technologies. Hence, the future growth will be driven by adoption of AI, block chain technology, cuber security applications etc where opportunities and government stimulus is there,” he emphasized.
Mr.S.Krishnan addressed today-March 21st 2025-through online video link the delegates at ‘SIDA Synergy 2025-The Technology Conclave’ organized in Madurai by Software Industries Development Association (SIDA) with a theme ‘Techpreneurs: Expand Beyond Borders’ by inviting experts from IT field and from various emerging technologies.
“There are questions being asked about what happens to jobs because of AI…See, there are 8.5 million jobs in IT sector and our focus to retrain the IT people. ICREA did a study on the size of digital economy and it says that digital technology was seven per cent 10 years ago, it is now at 13 per cent in Indian economy and will go to 20 per cent by the end of this decade. We need to do more product development and R&D. Setting up Global Capability Centers (GCC) is one of the initiatives and I am sure the industry in Madurai takes advantage of the new TIDEL Park, ELCOT Park etc which will create high value added jobs in Madurai region. We are now moving away from metro cities and going towards places like Madurai,” Mr.S. Krishnan added.
Mr.Ewout de Wit, Consul-General of Netherlands, Mr.V.Mahadesha, Director, STPI Chennai and Mr.Sivarajah Ramanathan, founder president of SIDA, were among those who addressed the delegates along with Mr.Kathir Kamanathan, CEO, Chella Software and Mr.R.Prabhuram, SIDA president and other experts.
