MADURAI: A rare complex brain surgery was successfully performed for a just 9-months-old male baby by the neurology team of doctors at Hannah Joseph Hospital in Madurai which is situated on Ring Road towards the Madurai airport.
“It was a life-saving neuro endovascular surgery performed for the infant male baby from Madurai by our neuro team and it is the fourth case referred in the international neuro medical journal journal with a baby having ruptured brain aneurysm of what we performed now and there are just three cases reported in the world neuro surgery literature for the infants,” Dr.M.J.Arunkumar, Chairman and Managing Director, Hannah Joseph Hospital Limited, told reporters at a press meet in Madurai today-February 20th 2025.
The 9-months-old male baby who belongs to Madurai is now back to normal and the infant baby was weighing 7.5 kg when brought to Hannah Joseph Hospital with ventilator support after the baby suffered sudden unconsciousness, gasping etc.
“It is an extremely rare case for an infant baby to have such a brain devastating hemorrhages…. But our neuro team saved the male baby with top class emergency treatment and then our hospital team of doctors went for endovascualar treatment using balloon assisted coils by neuro radiologist Dr.Vinayagamani and neuro-anesthesiologist Dr.N.Arunkumar along with Cathlab support staff. It was a pinhole incision for the infant baby with very tiny micro meters. The baby is now back to normal, recovered and active….that baby is now as it should be for a one year child… This surgery was done on 29th December 2024 and was discharged in January third week….the follow-up was done and the baby is active now,” Dr.M.J.Arun Kumar told reporters along with neuro expert Dr.Vinayaga Mani at a press meet in Madurai organized by Hannah Joseph Hospital on February 20th 2025 informing that similar infant neuro critical cases took place in 1993, 2004 and 2022 in various countries as per the reputed international neuro journals and Madurai got the fourth such neuro case.
