Railway Protection Force arrests 4,975 touts, 1.25 lakh train tickets valued Rs.54 Cr seized and illegal software used for bulk, tatkal bookings blocked (Part-1)

MADURAI: A comprehensive multi-pronged strategy implemented by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to combat black marketing and check illicit ticket touting in Indian Railways has yielded significant results in the year 2024.

This strategic initiative undertaken by the RPF jointly with Commercial Department of the railways and IRCTC is aimed to ensure access to train tickets for legitimate passengers and curb all illegal activities that undermine public confidence in the railway system, a press release release issued by the Southern Railway yesterday- January 20th 2025- has informed by providing inputs given by Mr.G.M.Eswara Rao, Inspector General and Principal Security Commissioner, Southern Railway.

In the year 2024, a total of 4,725 illegal touting cases were registered by the Indian Railways all over India while 4,975 illegal touts were arrested with the seizure of 1,24,529 tickets valued Rs.53.38 crores, and RPF’s swift actions resulted in blocking 26,442 IRCTC IDs and also blocked illegal softwares used for bulk and tatkal bookings, the railway press release said.
