MADURAI: A large number of pensioners of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) in Madurai had voiced their agony and plight for not getting their monthly pension properly and they had staged a protest demonstration in MKU campus here today for three hours on Monday-January 13th 2025.

The protest in MKU campus today was for demanding their last December month pension and salary which was not yet disbursed to the teaching, non-teaching staff and pensioners of MKU by the Tamil Nadu Government.

“Asking…waiting…begging for our monthly pension has become the plight of MKU retired staff. Pension is the right given by the Supreme Court of India. Pension is being given for our service, but now that same our right of getting monthly pension became a punishment for us. The MKU staff in administration departments of this university are not moving the files and they are not giving the financial particulars on time to the Tamil Nadu Government, to the State Finance Department etc. Files are not moving from MKU and there is no proper follow-up from the MKU departments. The MKU staff are lethargic and I will prove that with my letters written to the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Department, the Higher Education Secretary and to the Madurai District Collector in the last one month. We are ready to go for a hunger strike in MKU campus soon and also our MKU pensioners ready to stage a road roko protest to block the traffic….because our’s is a genuine appeal for our monthly pension to save the 1,187 MKU pensioners and their families who are not getting pension for their food, medicines and sustenance,” Prof.Dr.A.Srinivasan, president, MKU Pensioners Association, has said while addressing the university pensioners in MKU campus today-January 13th 2025.

The MKU Pensioners Welfare Association had given a representation and appeal to the MKU Registrar and to the Conveners Committee that is now running the routine university administration because there is no Vice-Chancellor for MKU right now.
