Ph.D marks scandal in MKU: TN Govt orders full enquiry on research irregularities in university with mention of American College Principal…ENQUIRY COMMITTEE FORMED (FULL DETAILS Part-1)

MADURAI: A five-member enquiry committee has been constituted in Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) in Madurai to look into the alleged irregularities in enrolment of students for research Ph.D in entrance examination 2024.

According to MKU sources here, the university Registrar Prof.M.Ramakrishnan had issued an official circular on December 27th 2024 informing that an enquiry committee was constituted following the urgent directions of Additional Chief Secretary to Tamil Nadu Government Higher Education Department, to conduct a thorough, fair and transparent enquiry on the “alleged six irregularities in the enrolment of students for Research in MKU” and the university Registrar also requested the enquiry committee to convene the enquiry meeting immediately and give a report as early as possible to the university to take further action.

The Ph.D irregularities enquiry committee members in MKU in Madurai are: Dr.D.Ganesh, Chairperson, School of Biotechnology, Dr.M.Sivakumar, Professor and Head, Department of Entrepreneurship Studies, Dr.P.Varalakshmi, Associate Professor and Head in-charge, Department of Molecular Microbiology, Dr.A.Siva, Associate Professor. Department of Inorganic Chemistry and Dr.S.Rosita, assistant professor, Department of Commerce.

An urgent official communication dated December 10th 2024 from the Tamil Nadu State government’s Higher Education Department was sent to Madurai Kamaraj University in Madurai, to the Convenor Committee Chairperson of MKU in the absence of a Vice-Chancellor right now, sources said on December 28th 2024.

In that Government letter to MKU, it was mentioned that alleged irregularities in enrolment of students for research in Madurai Kamaraj University were brought to the notice of Tamil Nadu government with complaints on Ph.D admisisons, qualifying marks, Normalization Formula, about MKU Research Section Superintendent Kuppusamy and his subordinates collecting cash from each student for allotting additional marks through ‘Normalization Formula Method’ and during the interview, and that the American College Principal Dr.M.Davamani Christober, who is also a Convener Committee Member of MKU, is misusing his official position by conniving with MKU Research Section Superintendent Mr.Kuppusamy in allotting more marks through ‘Normalization Formula Method’ to the applicants chosen who have chosen American College.

The Tamil Nadu State government’s Higher Education Department also said that a committee may be formed by MKU with honest professors to analyze and allot marks to Ph.DE applicants in a fair and transparent manner and then declare the results. Following the State Government order, the MKU Registrar in-charge had formed an eqnuiry committee on December 27th 2024 to probe into the Ph.D irregularities.
