TN Governor constitutes Search Committees for three universities to identify candidates for appointment as Vice-Chancellors; 4-member committee with UGC Chairman’s nominee

MADURAI: Tamil Nadu Governor and Chancellor of State universities Mr.R.N.Ravi has constituted the search committees for identification of the candidate for appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Anna University in Chennai, Bharathidasan University in Tiruchi and Periyar University in Salem, according to a press release received from Raj Bhavan in Chennai today-December 20th 2024.

The Search Committee of Anna University includes nominees of the Chancellor, Government of Tamil Nadu, Syndicate of Anna University and UGC Chairman’s Nominee, as per provision of Anna University Act and as per prevailing regulations of UGC,2018.

The Search Committees of Bharathidasan University and Periyar University includes nominees of the Government, Senate and Syndicate of the university and UGC Chairman’s nominee as per provisions of respective universities Act and as per prevailing regulations of UGC 2018, the press release from Governor’s office has said today.

The inclusion of UGC Chairman’s nominees in the Search Committee of these universities are held to be mandatory by the Honourable Supreme Court, the Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan press release had stressed today, and accordingly the Chancellor acting within the ambit of Constitutional and legal provisions has constituted the Search Committee to ensure a fair and impartial selection process for the position of Vice-Chancellor, according to the press release.

The Tamil Nadu Governor has directed the Government of Tamil Nadu to notify the constitution of Search Committee of Anna University (Chennai), and Bharathidasan University (Tiruchirapalli) vide letters dated 11th November 2024 and for Periyar University (Salem) vide letter dated 5th December 2024 consisting of four members including the UGC Chairman’s nominee.
