MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Higher Education Department’s order for installation of biometric attendance marking system was implemented by the Madurai Kamaraj University here immediately after the Government Order was issued in the month of November 2024 by the Higher Education Department of Government of Tamil Nadu.
MKU sources told ‘Lotus Times’ media in Madurai on December 16th 2024 that 49 bio-metric attendance marking system units were fixed at various points in the university campus here for teaching and non-teaching staff immediately to mark their attendance after the order was received from the Tamil Nadu State Government.
“The biometric attendance marking system was done in MKU already and it was activated in all departments of our university in Madurai. Biometric attendance is now compulsory for all T and NT staff as per the Government order. Staff are keeping their thumb impression on time now and we are seeing a rush at attendance machines in our MKU at the time of entry and exit. The attendance analysis of last one month can be given only in the first week of January,” a senior official of MKU said today while speaking to ‘Lotus Times’ media on December 16th 2024.
However, questions are being raised whether the biometric attendance will be made mandatory in aided, affiliated colleges also because MKU university employees are asking when the bio-metric attendance will be made compulsory in all the colleges especially in the MKU’s constituent colleges and aided colleges in Madurai region where the teachers’ associations are active and there is an appeal to implement bio-metric attendance in MKU’s constituent colleges and affiliated colleges, an senior level staff of universities are waiting for the Tamil Nadu State government to issue a G.O. for college teachers also like what it did for universities.
