Self compilation camp conducted at TN Chamber in Madurai on Annual Survey of Industries for data collection by National Statistics Office

MADURAI: To create awareness among manufacturing and industrial units, the field operations division of National Statistics Office-Madurai Regional Office had organized ‘Self Compilation Camp’ on the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) Return 2023-24 at the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today- December 16th 2024.

The objective of this camp was to enable the industries understand the process of online self data submission which is crucial for policy making and sectoral planning. Representatives from about 50 industrial units from Madurai, Theni and Dindigul districts participated in this camp where step by step guidance was provided on how to fill the ASI form and about the online submission system.

Mr.G.Vishnuraj, Director, National Statistics Office (FOD), Tamil Nadu South Region, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, Dr.N.Jegatheesan, president, Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr.L.Palaniappan, assistant director, Madurai Region National Statistics Office and Mr.R.Durai, deputy director, DES, had stressed the importance of data because policy framing can be done only of accurate data and statistics are available.

“Industrial data collection is very important to the government for macro economic indicators and GDP calculation. It is not for tax purposes etc and this compilation of manufacturing particulars in ASI helps us to plan better. There need not be any apprehensions or hesitation for the manufacturers and industries,” Mr.G.Vishnuraj has said.

Dr.N.Jegatheesan had informed that there are 39,512 industries in Tamil Nadu and the State contributes significantly to the country’s GDP. The intricacies of ASI return forms were explained in today’s camp by a team of senior statistical officers. Mr.J.Selvam, vice-president of TN Chamber and Mrs.R.Padmavathy, senior statistical officer, were among those present at the inaugural session.
