Thiagarajar School of Management and ‘Thozhuvam’ come together to promote pastoral practices; MoU signed in Madurai with focus on grazing and green economy

MoU between TSM and ‘Thozhuvam’ in Madurai on November 19th 2024.

MADURAI: Pastoral activities are set to get a big boost very soon from Madurai region thanks to the coming together of Thiagarajar School of Management (TSM) and India’s first pastoral institution ‘Thozhuvam’ with a clear focus to promote sustainable pastoralism, grazing and green economy initiatives.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between TSM and ‘Thozhuvam Farmer Producers Company Ltd’ was entered into in Madurai on November 19th 2024 and among those present were TSM Director Dr.Murali Sambasivan, ‘Thozhuvam’ pastoralist activist Dr.Peri.Kabilan and ‘Thozhuvam FPCL Chief Executive Officer J.Suresh Kannan along with Mr.S.Krishnakumar, Dr.Manjula and Dr.Senthil.

“This MoU between the TSM and Thozhuvam has a lot significance because the United Nations has declared year 2026 as the ‘International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists’ considering the global importance of pastoral practices,” according to a press release received from ‘Thozhuvam’ here last evening.

While the Thiagarajar School of Management is a national level reputed institution with 82nd rank in NIRF 2024 rankings, ‘Thozhuvam’ is India’s first pastoral institution which had demonstrated that the Tamil Nadu pastoral way of life embodies vital components for a green economy including natural farming, biodiversity balance and atmospheric carbon reduction, the press release added.

The MoU that was signed in Madurai yesterday aims to raise public awareness about the significance of Tamil Nadu’s pastoral practices and improve the lives of those involved in pastoral activities and foster new entrepreneurs by using the available network to create modern market access.
