Put people and planet before profit: CED holds workshop in Madurai on social entrepreneurship, fair trade

MADURAI: A one-day workshop on ‘Livelihood, Social Entrepreneurship, Fair Trade towards ethical consumption and sustainable development’ was organised in Madurai today- November 18th 2024- by SIPA Fair Trade-Chennai jointly with Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (Tamil Nadu) and Convenant Centre for Develompment-Madurai.

Students, NGOs, CSR leaders, Self-Help Groups and producer coops were invited to participate in this workshop that took place at CED campus in Mattuthavani here today morning with over 70 participants from colleges and NGOs.

Dr.R.Jayaraman, Member Secretary of CED (Tamil Nadu), in his presidential address explained about different types of entrepreneurship by emphasising that entrepreneurship and ownership go together with persistent efforts for the desired results.

Dr.K.Panchaksharam, secretary and CEO, SIPA Fair Trade, Chennai, spoke on the concept of fair trade that will lead to fairness in trade practices. He urged the people to know about costing details of any product/service and its impact on consumers’ health and wellness, and on the Mother Planet.

Mr.Michael D Annaraj, Chairperson from TRUPA, Sivaganga, who is a State-level master trainer for SHGs, had explained about successful stories of SHGs from livelihood initiatives to social entrepreneurship among women, self-confidence entrepreneurial skills and self-pride when they involve and manage a business successfully.

Dr. (Prof) Reva Joshi from Canada spoke in sustainable livelihood and practice of non-violence, she also lauded the efforts taken from Madurai, according to a press release here today. The final message that was conveyed was that youth as young consumers could act as ‘change agents’ and to make sure that they put people and planet before profit.
