MADURAI: The Commonwealth of Dominica is conferring its highest national award- the Dominica Award of Honour- on India’s Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi in recognition of his contribution and support to Dominica during the COVID-19 pandemic period and for his dedication to strengthen the partnership between India and Dominica.
This award of honour will be presented to him during the upcoming India-CARICOM Summit scheduled to take place in Georgetown, Guyana from November 19th to 21st 2024, by the President of Dominica Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, according to a press release issued by the Office of the Prime Minister of Government of Dominica.
The Indian Prime Minister Mr.Modi had supplied Dominica with 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in February 2021, which is described as a generous gift that enabled Dominica to extend support to its Caribbean neighbours, the press release said.
Prime Minister of Dominica Mr.Roosevelt Skerrit has said that the award is an expression of Dominica’s gratitude for the Indian Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi’s solidarity with Dominica and the wider region, and his role in promoting climate resilience building initiatives and sustainable development on a global level.
“PM Mr.Modi has been a true aprtner to Dominica during our time of need amid a global health crisis. It is an honour to present hi with Dominica’s highest national accolade as a symbol of our gratitude for his support,” Mr.Skerrit has said.
