MADURAI: Mrs.Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Government of India, had chaired a high-level regional review meeting of southern States and Union Territories at New Delhi on November 6th 2024.
Senior officials from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands had attended this meeting where the focus points of discussion were critical animal husbandry programs, schemes, how to boost poultry, dairy, livestock development, 21st livestock census, progress of animal disease control programs and expansion of veterinary education.
“In this meeting, the DAHD Secretary highlighted the urgent need to expand veterinary education system to meet the growing demand for veterinary professionals in India. She called upon the southern States to set up more veterinary colleges. The need for strengthening veterinary infrastructure such as vet hospitals, vet diagnostic systems and animal welfare mechanisms was stressed. Mrs.Alka Upadhyaya also emphasized to ensure success of 21st Livestock Census underway now because this census is important for shaping future policies for animal husbandry sector,” a press release received from the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, has said.
Among those who attended this high-level meeting in New Delhi on November 6th 2024 include Additional Secretary Ms.Varsha Joshi and Animal Husbandry Commissioner Dr.Abhijit Mitra and Joint Secretary Ms.Sarita Chauhan alng with senior officers and representatives from the State animal husbandry departments, the press release informed.
