MADURAI: Popular advocate and a well-known face in legal circles from Madurai Mr.S.Vanchi Nathan has appealed to the Chief Justice of Madras High Court requesting him to consider issuing a circular to all the judges of Tamil Nadu judiciary advising them to avoid situations and visits to temples that are figuring in civil or criminal cases in courts.
“Some temples or religious institutions managed by the litigants in courts should not be visited by our High Court Judges. I also request that media should be discouraged from publishing the images, photos and pictures so as to maintain impartiality and independence of the judiciary. I am submitting this letter to the judiciary to consider my concerns. I am concerned that such visits (by the HC Judges) should not be exploited by litigants…especially by those who are facing serious allegations and pending cases before teh Court. The publication of photographs of the Honourable Chief Justice with the litigants in the media photos sends a wrong signal.. potentially diminishing the dignity of our judiciary,” advocate S.Vanchi Nathan who is practicing at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has expressed his concern in his open letter to the Madras High Court Chief Justice from Madurai.
Advocate S.Vanchi Nathan from Madurai had written this letter to the Madras High Court Chief Justice by stating that “it is a matter of concern that has arisen following Your Honour’s recent visit to the Chidambaram Natarajar Temple (October 20th 2024) which is managed by Podhu Dikshitars who are the frequent litigants before the Honourable Madras High Court and other subordinate courts in Tamil Nadu for past several decades. A case pending before the court…. In fact, a day before that….Hon’ble Justice Dhandapani of Madras High Court had openly condemned the actions of ‘Dikshitars’ by criticizing their past conduct towards the devotees… and the following day your visit to that temple was widely reported in the media….raising several questions about that media publicity. How the Dikshitars of Chidambaram Natarajar Temple informed the media and what is the intention about that publicity in media when there is a case going on in the Madras High Court,?” advocate S.Vanchi Nathan from Madurai had asked in his open letter to the Chief Justice of Madras High Court on October 29th 2024.
